Working With Lewis Street Primary School

The school is just down the road from The Castle Community Centre. Many but not all of the children and families that use The Castle also attend Lewis Street School We work in partnership with Lewis Street School on the land behind The Bingo Hall, Station Road and Lewis Street, which is an enclosed space and the only green space for the school. Our gardening groups have worked all winter in creating growing space and a recreational area for the use of the school and the community. This includes a Wooded Area that backs onto Dorning Street. A great space for future forest fun. We are working to bring this area back into use and made safe to use. The City of Trees are working with the school and community to plant 700 shrubs and trees on the school land, and we are in discussions to plant more in Ivy Park.

The Old Post Office

For some time it has been a dream of ours and Lewis Street School to work together in purchasing and renovating the old Post Office in Lewis Street. We have thought to make this into a staff space and a community café, with rooms on the back to use for mentoring sessions and space for community groups. Lewis Street School have been given permission to seek purchase of the former Post Office but the owner is asking too much.  Salford City Council are involved and have visited and assessed the site for its worth and then suggested a purchase offer. This was unfortunately refused.  We are still in ongoing discussions as to the way forward. Sadly, the building keeps deteriorating as we try to find a solution.
