Elevate Salford – A New Learning Skills & Work Programme at The Castle Community Centre

We’ve received a grant to run Elevate at The Castle Community Centre, a programme connecting organisations across Salford to support wellbeing and employability.

Through personalised one-to-one guidance, we’ll help you achieve your goals—whether it’s volunteering, CV writing, job applications, interview skills, or work placements in catering or administration. There’s no set path; your journey is unique and fully supported by our caring team.

This programme will boost your confidence, self-esteem, and essential skills like communication, organisation, and time management. You can go at your own pace, and while we’ll encourage you, you remain in control.

What Can You Do?

Choose from various options, whether just one or several—it’s entirely up to you!

Training and Skills Development

You may want to learn new skills in a specific area or practice skills you haven’t used in a while. We can offer this is administration and catering and we can also help you to access different courses and training online or across Salford. We will help you find the right course for you and provide you with support whilst you are completing it. There are so many options it is impossible to list them all here, so please do chat to us about how we can help. If we can’t, we will find someone who can.

Volunteering

There are various ways to volunteer at The Castle. We run a lot of weekly activities and events throughout the year and we are always grateful of the support from volunteers. At the moment we are looking for:

  • Gardening group members
  • Volunteer Helpers at weekly groups (Bee Yourself, Family Brunch, Kids Club, Sunday Tea and Cake)
  • Volunteer helpers for community events

You may have some ideas of your own about how you could volunteer and we would like to hear from you about these.

These roles vary on times and dates so there are a lot of options to choose from.

Applying for Jobs and Interview skills

We are able to offer help with writing a CV and completing job application forms. We will help you structure and review them to make sure you really sell all of your skills and achievements. Interviews can be and are difficult for everyone and is a place where people can often feel the most nervous. We will be able to help you practice for interviews and develop skills and ways of coping to get you through them.

Work Placements

We are able to offer a number of work placements in either administration or catering (you could so one or both). These will help you to build skills in these areas and practice these in a safe and supportive environment. These will be more structured sessions but will still have flexibility built in. Each work placement will be 30 hours and times/days are flexible. You will also be able to work with some of the partners of Elevate to gain even more experience.  You will receive one to one time with staff at The Castle to learn and practice your skills as well as additional time to develop a personal plan, have time to reflect and adjust where needed. This is the only option where there is a fixed number of hours (the other options above do not have a number of hours attached to them).

Support and Information

Due to the one to one support offered in this programme we will only be working with a few people at a time to ensure that you are fully supported in whatever area you choose to do.

Please get in touch with Jane to discuss joining us on the programme and decide what is right for you and when you can start.

We are really looking forward to working with you.
